GIMNAZIJA VUKOVAR

Gimnazija Vukovar is a state secondary general school with 319 students and 77 employees. It offers language, science and mathematics, and comprehensive programs, preparing students for college education. The school emphasizes teaching progress and collaboration with other institutions. Students are highly motivated and engaged in various local and national projects and volunteering activities. The teachers strive to extend learning beyond the curriculum and classroom settings.

Gimnazija Vukovar excels in geography, achieving top results in regional and national competitions. The school actively embraces its European dimension and has been part of the European Ambassador School Programme for four years. Students have participated in Euroscola at the EU Parliament, engaging in discussions with peers from across Europe and exploring the work of EU institutions. The school collaborates with local stakeholders to promote EU programs and values within the community.

The school has a fruitful partnership with Gimnazija Metkovic, exchanging students and sharing best practices through regular Skype meetings. Currently, Gimnazija Vukovar focuses on sustainable development, specifically goal number one of the UN's goals, addressing the link between climate change and rising poverty.

The chosen topic for the Erasmus plus partnership aligns with the school's mission of achieving success despite geographic challenges. Some students come from disadvantaged backgrounds or areas still recovering from the consequences of war. By embracing shared European values and goals, the school has demonstrated the potential for success and positivity. This project will further enhance their efforts in shaping their own destiny.

Additionally, Gimnazija Vukovar aims to promote Erasmus+ KA2 partnerships in the region and believes their participation in this project will contribute to its dissemination. The geographical and historical distinctions between the school and the other Croatian town involved will highlight the diverse regions of Croatia.

The activities will reflect the topic of this mobility and will take place both inside the school itself and outside in different locations. After presenting the school facilities, there will be workshops in the school about the topic of Climate change and the school’s activities within the European Ambassador School Programme.

For cultural exchange and informing, a city tour will be organized as well as a boat cruise on the River Danube. A visit to the Vučedol culture museum will include workshops on the history of populating this area and on the use of various materials typical of the geology of this area, such as loess – which will also be experienced during a visit to a locality rich in this material near the museum.
