Jensen gymnasium Göteborg

Jensen gymnasium Göteborg is a part of the company Jensen Education. The company is owned by Håkan Jensen who founded the organization in 1996. There are Jensen schools all over the country, from Malmö in the south to Uppsala just north of Stockholm. The company has schools in different school levels; elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools, and adult educations.

JENSEN gymnasium Göteborg opened in 2007 and is today a well-established school in the city of Göteborg. The high school is located in the city center. Jensen gymnasium Göteborg has about 450 students between the ages 15-19 years old. There are about 30 staff members where teachers, school board, administration personnel, and the students' health care team, consisting of a nurse and counselors, are included.

With this project, the students get to experience what it’s like to start, run and finally liquidate a company. At our school, we work a lot with computers and IT. Every student has their own Chromebook, a kind of tablet. The students work on their computers all the time, except in maths and when they read fiction, even though students with reading and writing disabilities can listen to an e-book on the computer instead of reading it. Both students and teachers work with Google apps. The Jensen Education company has even built its own IT-platform, Jensen Campus, for teachers and students which is connected to Google apps. At Jensen Campus, students can see and hand in all their school tasks. The teachers plan all courses and the students can see what’s going to happen during each lesson. Since we only use Google apps it’s very easy to share documents and files between teachers and students. This is a very important tool for the teaching staff at our school since we work a lot with assessment for learning.

We are taking part in an Erasmus+ project at the moment but it will end in the summer of 2020. It’s our first Erasmus project but we have also taken part in a Comenius project earlier. Our ongoing project is called “A Digital Mapping of traditional jobs in Europe" and we are focusing on getting the young students aware of traditional jobs as a possible future career.

The power of geography - dystopia or utopia

Description of the activity:

This meeting will be held to train teachers and discuss the details of the project such as the web 2.0 tools that will be used for creating videos, online exams, and Utopia city. And the participants will present their plans for their mobility and we will discuss dissemination activities. Furthermore, we will have a workshop to prepare lesson materials for distance learning and the teachers of the host school will demonstrate how they prepare lesson materials for distance learning through web tools such as Zoom and Hangout. These experiences will be great supports for the other mobilities and will be applied during them.

DAY 1 - Web 2.0 tools - The coordinator will present the tasks, how to fill in the Mobility Tool, responsibilities of each partner and also the project's general aims. Before the mobility, each partner will prepare a presentation about the programs or Web 2.0 tools they suggest to use during the project. These will be presented during the meeting. The host school will then organize a workshop to present the Google apps they use in their classes and we will decide which programs or tools will be used for online exams and other products. We will create example materials using these tools. All these experiences will be shared during the workshop that will be organized after this mobility.

DAY 2 - Products - We will talk about Utopia cities which is one of the most important products of the project. We will discuss its design and the programs that will be used to create it. We will also talk about our website and its content. The etwinning project will be a further topic, as we will discuss its content and each partners' task for the etwinning project. Turkey and Croatia (Gimnazija Metkovic) will provide useful information and advice in this area.

DAY 3 - Job Shadowing - We will join the lessons at the host school to observe how Google apps and Chrome books are used in the classes. We will also have an activity on how to organize a "Flipped Classroom". We will visit the Library of the University of Gothenburg to learn how they teach university students source criticism. Finally, we will visit the department for Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Chalmers and learn how they teach their students sustainability. Our Croatian partner Gimnazija Metkovic will have a presentation about preparing an Etwinning project and how to get the Etwinning School Label
