IES Martin Rivero

IES Martin Rivero is a general and vocational secondary school with approximately 1100 students and 96 teachers. The school offers general and post-compulsory secondary education in various fields, as well as vocational studies in business administration, finance, electricity, ICT, and gardening. Multiple languages, including English, French, and Italian, are taught at the school.

The school holds Quality Management certificates for environmental protection and resource management, emphasizing recycling, re-use, and waste reduction. Participating in the Erasmus project provides an opportunity to enhance the school's European dimension, promoting cultural exchange and fostering open-mindedness and tolerance among students.

Collaboration and teamwork are valued at the school, and the project offers an excellent platform for sharing experiences, teaching methods, and utilizing new technologies. The project aims to improve students' communication skills in both their native language and foreign languages. It also provides an opportunity for teachers to collaborate with educators from different European countries, enhancing their professional development.

The project will be led by Juan Tomás Linares, an English teacher, with support from María Belén Badillo (Head of English) and Juan Gutiérrez (English teacher). Teachers from various departments, including Sciences, Geography, History, Cultural Studies, Physical Education, Literature, History, and Art, will also be involved.

The school has previous experience with Erasmus+ projects, having participated in a KA1 project from 2015 to 2017 and currently serving as a partner in a KA229 project focused on mythologies. Additionally, the school engages in research and development programs, collaborating with universities to conduct educational research projects outside of regular curriculum hours.

Overall, participation in the Erasmus project will enrich the educational experience at IES Martin Rivero, fostering international cooperation and providing valuable learning opportunities for both students and teachers.

Human-made mistakes

Description of the activity:

During the mobility, the focus will be on the impact of human behavior on nature. Students from partner schools will conduct research on consumer habits and their effects on climate change. They will interview experts, read articles, and analyze the relationship between economic consumption and its consequences. The findings will be compiled into reports with graphs and references, which will be shared on social media platforms.

To prepare for this activity, partner schools will organize a workshop led by a university expert on conducting research and preparing reports. This will enhance students' academic research skills. Additionally, each school will engage in a critical thinking activity using the Six Thinking Hats method to discuss consumption habits.

During the mobility, students will present their reports on the first day after the opening ceremony. The second day will focus on individual and economic effects on the environment, including a workshop on calculating carbon footprints and creating informative posters on reducing them. The third day will involve researching and discussing the impact of meat production and consumption on food, land, and energy resources. Students will design a menu with lower greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprints.

On the fourth day, students will watch the documentary "6 Degrees Can Change the World" and imagine and describe possible lives at different degrees of temperature increase. The fifth day will involve researching the environmental impact of organic food, followed by a critical thinking activity and a visit to an organic farm.

Throughout these activities, students will track their progress using a "KWL chart" (what they know, what they want to learn, and what they have learned). Teachers will also participate in a workshop on the flipped classroom approach.
